Top Hat check in

how's it going with the top hats? are you all decorating away? it's hard to tell how many are participating since i really didn't have sign ups (wasn't sure how big it might be and didn't know if i had the time to handle all that) but, guess we will be surprised, huh?

if you don't know what i am referring to, you can go read the original post here, to get yourself updated.

tonight i was working on the First prize for the Top Hat Derby Winner (i think i am going to do 2 prizes). i really want to show you what i was making, but i don't really want anyone to see it yet. sorry! the judges will be myself, jeff & dillon

alright, that's it!

upcoming workshop - Pam Carriker, May 2011

Come spend the day with Pam Carriker as we explore painting and journaling techniques. A little more on Pam:

Largely self-taught, my work is reflective of the more than 20 years of experience using a variety of mediums and has been published numerous times in Somerset Studios, The Stampers’ Sampler, Art Journaling, Somerset Apprentice, and Cloth Paper Scissors and I serve in the Directors Circle for Stampington & Co. I teach both online and live workshops, and I’m currently writing my first book due out 2011 with Interweave Press, featuring projects and motivation for being creative every day. Pam's book, Art at the speed of Life, can be pre ordered here. Bring your book to class for an autograph!

Workshop
'Behind the Face'
With Pam Carriker

We will create a mixed media background using a variety of techniques, developing a perfect 8x10 backdrop to add a mixed media portrait to. I will deconstruct the drawing of a face to make it doable by everyone. Behind the face we will explore ourselves, through journaling. Our ‘thoughts’ will then be covered up by the face we create as we work on a self portrait of sorts that anyone can do. I provide full support for all skill levels in this class, offering a variety of ways to add a face within your comfort zone.

details:
date: Saturday May 14, 2011
time: 11:00-5:00
location: Wall, NJ
fee: $85 for the class & $15 for supplies

please email me at keeshagirl4@aol.com with any questions!

Flea Market Friday - join in!

goodness, I almost forgot! here i am thinking it is Thursday!

Well, obviously it is getting colder and harder for us to get to a flea market without warm weather and it not raining - so i think this will be the last FMF until it warms up again!

i did manage to find a few things last week at Columbus, but not alot - not many vendors when it is cold.

old mirror frame - i see this as the beginning of a cold mixed media base!

------------------------------------

cute dollie to alter, some vintage party blowers, some bias tape rolls and an old embroidery

----------------------------------------------------

an old smudge pot, i believe they were called- love the green!

Art in the Rough 2011

Art in the Rough 2011 has gone live! Registration is now open for next summers event. If you remember reading about last years event, you'll remember how much fun we had! This years teaching line up includes myself, Pamela Huntington, Lesley Venable and Robin Betterley.

I will be teaching a mixed media type of art journal using an old record holder. do you have a drawer (or two) full of papers that you have accumulated? Well, we will be putting all those old papers, scraps, collage stuff, saved letters, photos, tidbits, art work, etc. and learning a variety of techniques to turn them into an art journal. You don't have to be a journal to enjoy this. it can even turn out to be a scrapbooks of sorts and then we go from there!

Be sure to visit the site to see what the other instructors are teaching!

-----------------------------

Also, this Friday is the first Friday of the month, so i will be doing Flea Market Friday. Feel free to join in with your flea market finds. this might be the last one till the weather warms up a bit!
