Largely self-taught, my work is reflective of the more than 20 years of experience using a variety of mediums and has been published numerous times in Somerset Studios, The Stampers’ Sampler, Art Journaling, Somerset Apprentice, and Cloth Paper Scissors and I serve in the Directors Circle for Stampington & Co. I teach both online and live workshops, and I’m currently writing my first book due out 2011 with Interweave Press, featuring projects and motivation for being creative every day. 'Behind the Face'
With Pam Carriker


We will create a mixed media background using a variety of techniques, developing a perfect 8x10 backdrop to add a mixed media portrait to. I will deconstruct the drawing of a face to make it doable by everyone. Behind the face we will explore ourselves, through journaling. Our ‘thoughts’ will then be covered up by the face we create as we work on a self portrait of sorts that anyone can do. I provide full support for all skill levels in this class, offering a variety of ways to add a face within your comfort zone.

On Sunday, October 24th from 11:00-4:00, I will be hostessing an enameling workshop here at Lemoncholy's Studio with artist, Jean Van Bredorode. Jean describes the class as:


Early Bird Enameled Necklace or Brooch

We will learn how to create this domed copper bird shape with a hydraulic press, then kiln-enamel it front & back, and add some words (you may choose your own if you wish) to give it extra pizzazz! We'll use a hydraulic press to shape the copper with a die that we've designed and created ourselves. Together, we will give her the cutest wire-formed birdie legs and add a tiny ladybug hanging from her mouth. The techniques you will learn in this class can be used to make an unlimited number of designs in many sizes limited only by your imagination!

Guest Artist - Leslie Marsh

I am so excited to introduce my friend, Leslie Marsh, who will be teaching for the very first time EVER, one of her amazing book binding techniques here at Lemoncholy's Studio! I've been to Leslie's studio and seen some of the books that she has created and we are in for an incredible day.

Binding Memories in Black and White Books.

There is a book in every direction, every nook and crany, every shelf, and every flat area in my house. Some of those books are full of images, some of recipes, some hold only lists.

And some hold paintings, photographs, secrets and dreams.

I love knowing how to create the vessels that will hold the information of my life. You’re going to love it too.

In this class, we will use items found in our yards to create bleached images that will form the pages we will bind into vintage books to be used as photo albums and journals. Vessels that will hold the information of our lives.

Oh. And the skills necessary to make your own journal/photo album/ book of dreams? You’ll leave with those too.

I specifically sought out Pam to be my first guest artist as she is a wonderful teacher, her projects are so much fun to create and we will learn much! A Wonderland Journal with Pamela Huntington

Did you ever wonder what Alice’s Journal of her
Wonderland Journey might have looked like? In this class we
will create a magical, whimsy filled fabric journal of her( or
your) adventures. “What is the use of a book, thought Alice,
without pictures or conversations”. We will create a book
filled with pictures and visual conversations. Stuffed with
adventure and lace. All sorts of ideas for creating a rich
layered page will be explored. Including stamping on velvet
and gel transfers onto different surfaces and using organza to
make an ethereal looking fabric collage on a page. To
embellish the cover we will create a resin filled bezel
containing a tiny collage and, or charm. This will be a day of
fun creating and adventure. And if the Alice theme is not your
pleasure, bring your own ideas and pictures for your journal.
The journal is approximately 5 x 7 and as stuffed with
fun as we can possibly make it!

Left New York City many years ago and landed
like Alice in a sort of strange wonderland deep in the
woods of Connecticut. Immediately, she began to
look for haunting flights of fancy, curious old recipes, vintage oddities and ephemeral pages stashed in old
cupboards. And that is where the folly began…mixed media, collage, handmade books, tiny theaters began to
fill the house in the woods… objects of everyday tucked
into shadowboxes taking on the patina of age, tiny
beeswax creations adorning the library of imagination and so on…to be continued.. In the meantime finished works available in various galleries and published in
Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studio:

Joujou Charm Necklace and EarringsA magical workshop featuring artist, Deryn Mentock
Oui! Let’s play! A juju is a charm or amulet with “magical” powers. The word “juju” is derived from the French word joujou meaning “toy” or “plaything.” In this class, we’ll spend a fun first day playing with charms. We’ll assemble all sorts of joujou charms and create a beautiful charm keeper pendant designed to hold them.
Saturday and Sunday, October 19 & 20, 2008 9:00 AM – 4:00 PMHillsboro, Oregon
Deryn will show how to create mica and paper charms, a glass vial charm, and her special wire bird’s nest charm published by Stampington in Belle Armoire Jewelry. She’ll also demonstrate a transfer to glass technique using a chandelier crystal that we’ll turn into a charm. Students will learn jewelry making basics such as how to make perfect jump rings but they’ll also learn how to make twisted wire jump rings, s-links, rosary style links and wire wrapped dangles. On day two, we’ll finish the necklace by incorporating a beautiful piece of silk using wrapped ends and learn how to make a strong hook and eye clasp to finish the piece. Deryn will also demonstrate how to properly make ear wires and we’ll make at least one pair of earrings to match our joujou necklace.
Workshop Fee: $250
