Journey Boy

He's a young boy living on his own, off the grid. He was raised in the wild and that's all he's knows. He's extremely earth friendly and is all about COEXISTing with his fellow creatures.

His home is an cool old metal chair, that he ofound in a cave. He's  a treasure keeper and cherishes everything that he finds (shells, bones, old pottery, driftwood  and other such wonderful and amazing  things he finds along the way. Once he found a beautiful old glass sphere, covered in lichen covered rope.

Recently he found a nest with 3 perfectly gorgeous robin eggs. The nest appeared to be abandoned, so he took it upon himself to love and cherish them; even if they never hatch. It's the family concept, you see.

He wove a special nest holder, out of grapevine, to fit underneath his metal chair, so that he knew the eggs were safe and secure. Some of his most favorite finds are woven into the grapevine; the making of a warm and cozy home.

Jewelry is very important to Journey. He collects treasures and then turns them into wearable pieces of art. Every milestones he creates a new piece.

Equally, totems represent familiarity and establishes his clan. He loves to perform gravity glue with rocks and leaves his special art pieces where ever he can.

Hope for Oklahoma

A couple of my cool facebook friends (the Heather's) ran a really cool auction a couple of weeks ago to raise funds for victims in Oklahoma, following the hurricane. With all the items donated and then auctioned, they were able to raise almost $9000! how amazing is that. I donated 3 pieces myself.

Well the girls are starting round 2 tomorrow. I am donating this piece that I have called, Angel of Hope. The auction takes place on this page and you bid under the photo of the item you are interested in. You have to have a paypal address to bid. Visit their and like their page here

"Angel of Hope":

Angel of Hope is a mixed media hanging piece, measuring 12" long and 7.5" wide. She is made up a variety of objects because she represents the disentanglement of life after a hurricane comes through. Her feet are old spoons. I imagined finding them on the ground in the rubble afterwards. Her body is an Altoid tin and can be opened to view the inside, which contains a small painting, meant to illustrate the wounded voice to all that have lost so much. She has been soldered and her head (and old vintage bisque Charlotte doll part) has been anchored down with a screw. This screw now holds her together; much like the support offered by Hope for Oklahoma. ~kecia deveney

Wild Muse with Alena Hennessey

We were lucky enough to snag Alena Hennessey to teach a workshop here at the Jersey shore. She's on her way to teach at Squam, so it was great of her to squeeze us into her agenda. It was a wonderful weekend of laughter, some tears, good food, good company and amazing art. Although hot, the weather was gorgeous and it was wonderful to enjoy the yard. A couple of us even hit the Ocean Grove flea market early saturday morning before class. These are my pieces from class.

Guest Artist and author Alena Hennessey June 1&2

Wild Muse: Diving into the Magical World of Mixed Media

During this 2-day mixed media workshop we will explore a range of techniques and inspiring materials, to create two works of art, with a strong emphasis on color, line, movement, and texture.

Through various opening prompts and exercises, Alena will guide you in creating pieces that hold your heart longings and dreams sacred, while letting your natural creative abilities guide you. The first works will be paper and paint-based collages that will get the juices flowing before you begin to work on your large painting on wood. The larger work on a gallery sized wood panel will have a strong focus on water and color flow, while incorporating the magical world of botanicals and any creatures or animals you wish to incorporate into it.

The works you create will serve as symbolic and beautiful totems to enhance your life, a treasure to keep and serve as a reminder of what you hold sacred.

Be prepared for a super joyous and educational class.

dates: June 1 & 2

Wall, NJ
cost: $200

Art-is-You 2011

Here are my pics (and a few borrowed photos as well....). Please forgive the pictures; between an upgraded firefox (hate it!) my photo enhancing program doesn't seem to be compatible and i just don't have the time to make them  "perfect". so enjoy as is.................

what can i say about this year? each year gets better and better! It's always great to see old friends and meet new ones. My friends and i made the most of it, per our usual, and had many laughs, many drinks and much silliness. There were touching moments, tears were shed and hopefully inspiration was endless.

I gave a speech on bravery, which i will share a copy of in another post. Hopefully i can find someone who took some video of me speaking.

enjoy the pics!
