here's another painting that i did in jesse's class. you can really get a feel for the process from this example.

it was at this point that i flipped my painting upside and decided i liked what was happening in the other direction.

i could see a rather odd looking sheep

this is where i left the painting. the top part is definitely going to get blocked out, so that i can focus on the sheep more. haven't done any painting since i've been home, so not sure when it'll get done, but that's the next move on this piece!

Guest Artist - Leslie Marsh

I am so excited to introduce my friend, Leslie Marsh, who will be teaching for the very first time EVER, one of her amazing book binding techniques here at Lemoncholy's Studio! I've been to Leslie's studio and seen some of the books that she has created and we are in for an incredible day.

Binding Memories in Black and White Books.

There is a book in every direction, every nook and crany, every shelf, and every flat area in my house. Some of those books are full of images, some of recipes, some hold only lists.

And some hold paintings, photographs, secrets and dreams.

I love knowing how to create the vessels that will hold the information of my life. You’re going to love it too.

In this class, we will use items found in our yards to create bleached images that will form the pages we will bind into vintage books to be used as photo albums and journals. Vessels that will hold the information of our lives.

Oh. And the skills necessary to make your own journal/photo album/ book of dreams? You’ll leave with those too.

these weekend i held two workshops and they were both quite fun. i totally forgot to take any pictures from saturday's jewelry class, so these pics are all from today's bottle class. one of the other participants got sick, so she wasn't able to make it today. but we will see her in another class. we had fun playing with our bottles and discussing the different types of bottles and ways to make toppers for them, how to alter them, etc. i think we each got 2 bottles finished.

also in February i am holding a Valentine's day card exchange between myself and you if you would like to exchange cards. you can read about it here. i have a lot of participants already, which i am excited about!

Mending the heart

For Christmas, as one of my gifts, i commissioned JoAnna Pierotti to make me one of her stunning angels. she usually adds a word to her dolls, which in effect, gives them life. So i asked her to give my angel the words "mending the heart" to signify my journey through grief. i just think she is so beautiful. i couldn't wait to unwrap her on Christmas morning!

here is where my angel is hanging. over my bed i had hung a sheer coverlet that i strategically draped to be flouncy. in the center i added some faux wisteria flowers. so she is hanging in the center of the coverlet which overlooks my bed. so when i am laying in bed, she is right there watching over me.

whatcha doin in August?

This summer i have been invited to Charleston, Maine to teach at Art-in-the-Rough. "Art in the rough" is the brainchild of my friend, Taryn Reece, of Naval Jelly Studios. It is 2 days of classes. The retreat is held on their property and is a camping retreat. Do not fear, though, you will be provided unique & elegant amenities. It's successful debut last year earned a new nickname of "glamping" (glamour camping!) here's what to expect:

"imagine bunking in a large tent house, snuggling into an oversized, comfy cot with crisp linens and warm blankets. You will be surrounded by special, luxurious touches including a complimentary welcome basket brimming with goodies, fresh towels & sundries" - I'm sold!

the minute i read about this retreat, i wanted to go. it reminded me of my sweet childhood memories of girl scout camp. I was so lucky to be a girl scout when i lived in Guam (yes, Guam!) and have the fondest memories of camping out with girlfriends and wonderful women full of encouragement and leadership. here is the other reasons i want to go:
facilities: private hot water outdoor showers, wash up stations, changing areas and bathrooms, accented with cool decorative touches & funky- junk! surrounded by picturesque gardens and breathtaking views of the mountains woods & fields. Be prepared for the treat of taking at shower outdoors! you can go on a nature walk or lounge by the pool. there is an art barn open 24 hours and campfire, twinkling lights and lanterns complete the magical setting.

Art-is-you 2009

i began my journey to Art-is-you on a very gusty and overcast day. driving in Tucker's big econoline van, packed to the gills with art supplies, class kits, display stuff for vendor night, stuff to sell on vendor night, luggage and my 2 favorite pillows. the wind was so bad, i had to death grip the steering wheel to keep the van from being whipped around. it was a little stressful to say the least. so if you were driving behind me, i apologize for going so slow!
i taught 4 classes; all of them so different from the next. i did a sewing class, a jewelry class, a soldering class and a collage class. i loved everyone of them and received so many compliments from my students after class was over. we worked very hard and all left with an almost completed project.
there were many friends to see and new ones to meet. i ended up spending a lot of time with di, taryn and jane and we bonded over silly things, interesting people and our similarities.
i found people to be extremely helpful and for the most part, everyone, although tired, wore a constant smile on their face.
i wanted to thank all the vendors who were so helpful to me with selling my stuff or watching over it while i was in class (scott, lenny, terri, linda and the bead girl). it was sad to say goodbye as that close knit, "girlfriend power" feeling of art camaraderie just does not happen enough. but i know we will get to see each other soon and i look forward to it.

soldering class

so yesterday i held another soldering class. it went from 3 students to 7 in a matter of a day, so i did some reconfiguring and got it all arranged. need to get some extra power surgers and longer cords as we ran into a couple of glitches using an extension cord (not enough power). as i say after every class, i learned a few things as well as teaching what i know. it was a great class, fun and lively. i seemed to innocently say things that as soon as they come out of my month, sound rather crass! so we all had some good laughs at me! it is humbling to be told that i've inspired someone, so as a teaher, my goal has been achieved. you can check out jill's blog post here from my class.

soldering class here, sun. June 28th

I'm holding my second soldering class here this sunday. i moved a couch out of this room (referred to as "the fireplace room") and moved in some tables. i enjoy teaching, so it's a lot of fun. there will be another one on thurs. july 9th.
