Random Arts painting class April 13th & 14th

I'm happy to announce that I've been asked to teach my painting

style at Random Arts. I just taught there in Oct and it is the

greatest little set up. Roomy and comfortable and a store on hand

to buy your supplies. I just love it there.

Divine Messengers

In this 2 day painting class, we will explore a variety of
techniques for creating backgrounds. i know, I know,
everyone knows how to make a background. However, do
you know how to make them my way? I'll show you the way
that I work, the process that I go through as I take my
paintings from beginning to end. We will explore beginning
with abstract, creating great texture and then calming the
storm by adding a focal point. I have some fun exercises
lined up to practice ideas first before we turn to our canvas.
I can assure that you will have a lot of fun in this class! We
will be making marks, moving color, scribbling, waxing,
burning and more! No piece of mind ever looks the same,
because in this process, it's all about non perfection and
freedom to accept our work as it develops.

braving the cold

I rarely venture outside during the winter (unless its to run errands and I make sure my car is nice and warm before I get into it, lol), but the other morning I was suddenly possessed to take the dogs on a walk in the backfield. Maybe I just wanted to take some pictures as I've missed going outside and taking my photos. Anyway, it was  a really nice walk and the pups had a grand time.

other than that i've just been doing a lot of painting and also prepping for my online workshop (with my friend, Jane)  that starts Feb. 14th. I kind of got a little burned out on making jewelry, so taking a break for a bit to paint. (I kind of feel like EVERYONE is making jewelry now and its a very saturated market).

some things I've been painting:

The blog will be password protected and you will receive that information before class begins on February 14th. While this is not a beginner soldering class, we do go over how to solder. I hope to cover all the typical questions that arise when people learn soldering. Before you ask me ANY soldering questions, I will suggest that you please read the FAQ's first, because more than likely you'll find your answer there.

You need hi speed internet and I can not guarantee that you will be able to watch your videos on your iPad, etc. The videos have been uploaded onto Vimeo and then embedded onto the blog.  Should you have trouble viewing the videos,  you will need working knowledge on how to address any computer issues.

online class starting soon!

for those of you who weren't aware, I'm doing an online class with my friend, Jane, and it will be starting on February 14th. In the class we will be building a soldered house, out of glass, using mixed media techniques and soldering. It is really quite a beautiful project, made to look like  vintage mercury glass. We are quite excited, although, it's been a long haul getting this organized (due to a variety of reasons!), but we are almost there and I hope you will join us. Registration begins on Sunday. If you register as an early bird until February 13th, the cost is $100. After that it goes up to $125. Here is a little video to watch with us discussing the project. Stop back on Sunday if you are interested in the class!

and here's some pictures of our houses to get a better idea:

Guest Artist and author Alena Hennessey June 1&2

Wild Muse: Diving into the Magical World of Mixed Media

During this 2-day mixed media workshop we will explore a range of techniques and inspiring materials, to create two works of art, with a strong emphasis on color, line, movement, and texture.

Through various opening prompts and exercises, Alena will guide you in creating pieces that hold your heart longings and dreams sacred, while letting your natural creative abilities guide you. The first works will be paper and paint-based collages that will get the juices flowing before you begin to work on your large painting on wood. The larger work on a gallery sized wood panel will have a strong focus on water and color flow, while incorporating the magical world of botanicals and any creatures or animals you wish to incorporate into it.

The works you create will serve as symbolic and beautiful totems to enhance your life, a treasure to keep and serve as a reminder of what you hold sacred.

Be prepared for a super joyous and educational class.

Wall, NJ
cost: $200

A year of correspondence

Remember pen pals? I use to love writing letters to friends when I was  younger and had many pen pals too. It was fun to wait for the mail to come to see if I had gotten a letter. A few months ago, an art friend  sent me one of her prints, out of the blue, for no other reason, but to be kind. It started me thinking about asking her if she wanted to be pen pals. We've known each other for a few years on the art circuit and we are facebook friends as well, but we don't know each other beyond our art.

So I talked to her and she was very excited by the idea. So once a month we will write each other a letter and include a small piece of art. So by the time December rolls around, we will have 12 pieces to hang in our studios. I'm looking foward to it. I've mailed off her first letter.I think for now my pen pal will remain a secret and then next December, I will reveal who it is.

this is the first piece of art she will receive.

and Happy New Year, by the way!
xoxo,
kecia

p.s. i'll be posting a new visiting artist  soon,  for a class I'm hosting with her this summer.
