The Magic of Christmas

I'm excited to announce that I will be joining some fabulous artists (8 of us total!) over at Terri Brush Academy to teach 2 online holiday projects.  You can check out the details here. Registration begins Oct. 15th. The event is a steal at $49.99 for all 16 projects and you have til May to access the videos. You have to join the Academy first (free to join) to have access to the workshops.

I will be teaching two projects. One is a soldering project called, "Heritage Ornaments" in which we will solder a small box to house an item of your choice. I will walk you through soldering and offer suggestions of things to put inside your ornament.

The other project is using clay and we will creating fun and funky little "Misfit Snowmen".  I love making these fun little guys. They make great little gifts to wrap up and give to teacher, friends or for that unexpected gift you need in a hurry.

hope you can join in the fun!

Art is Tree

I'm up here in Reno where I taught 2 classes at friend, Nancy Nelson's shoppe, ArtisTree. Her shoppe is very cool. Love the style, decor, classroom. It just screams creativity.

Through Nancy, I met her sweet friend, Ginny. Ginny surprised me here in Reno, by putting me up in a suite at The Eldorado hotel which is owned by her husband. She's been spoiling me left and right and I must confess, I'm enjoying it. After working hard for months to prepare for this trip and then the long drive, I'm just a little tired! So it's been lovely to be here. Sunday I head back to Fallon for 2 more days with my dad. We are having a family BBQ and i'll need to repack the car before heading onto my next destination (northern California, Ferndale, where I went to elementary and 1 year of high school).

Yesterday I had some free time before class, so Nancy sent me over to a fabulous store called, Junkee. She just knew I'd love it. Indeed!

such a cool store- clothing exchange and antiques in one!

I also made a quick trip over to say hi to someone that is very important to our family.
This is the man that work 5 long, hard years to successfully settle our malpractice lawsuit. Sitting on a shelf in his office are the champagne corks from the celebratory victory. This man means the world to me. (the lawsuit was settled in 1995. this is the first time i've seen him since we moved from the west coast to the east coast 17 years ago.)

these weekend i held two workshops and they were both quite fun. i totally forgot to take any pictures from saturday's jewelry class, so these pics are all from today's bottle class. one of the other participants got sick, so she wasn't able to make it today. but we will see her in another class. we had fun playing with our bottles and discussing the different types of bottles and ways to make toppers for them, how to alter them, etc. i think we each got 2 bottles finished.

in February, i will be holding 2 more workshops, which you can read about here.

also in February i am holding a Valentine's day card exchange between myself and you if you would like to exchange cards. you can read about it here. i have a lot of participants already, which i am excited about!

Classes for February

February is fast approaching so i thought i'd post my class offerings now to give you time to maybe attend!

the first class, "Destash that stash" will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 10:00-2:00. one day when i was sitting around, i decided to spend 20 minutes going through my studio stuff, stuff found in junk drawers, stuff found in jewelry boxes, stuff belonging to my grandma, stuff belonging to my mother and broken stuff! i wondered, "what could i do with all this stuff? it is stuff that has meaning to me, yet it is just hiding away. you would not believe the fun stuff i rounded up in the strangest places (bathroom drawer!) we will be learning jewelry basics like wire wrapping, attaching, component soldering and basic jewelry design on creating a 2 tier charmed necklace and figuring out what to do with all this cool stuff. here are a couple of different designs i created to show what we will be doing. email me at keeshagirl4@aol.com for more information or to reserve your seat.

------------------------------------------------------------------

my second class offering will be a Valentine's themed soldering class to be held on Saturday, February 13th from 11:00-3:00. we will learn all about soldering as we create this vintage inspired ornament. email me at keeshagirl4@aol.com with questions or to reserve your seat.

hope to see you there!

---------------------------------------------------------------

and speaking of Valentine's Day, i'm still looking for people who want to exchange Valentine's Day cards with me! read the post here!

Holiday soldering class today

Today i held a holiday soldering class here at the house. it was a small class due to my Christmas tree taking up several spaces in the room! it was intimate and really fun. their kits were so cute, i put them in these awesome vintage stockings i found at the flea market. the kind we got as kids with that material that oranges use to be bagged in. A fellow etsian, Kelly, came. We've been online for several years now, so it is always fun to finally meet face to face. and she was so sweet to give me the most incredible polymer clay Santa as a gift.
Also Jenny Heid and her sister, Melissa, came! that was very exciting, as Jenny lives very close to me and we've never quite been able to meet up. Jenny and Melissa had the sweetest camaraderie. i took the cutest picture of them working together and helping each other. Jenny brought me a candle with one of her images on it. so sweet - thank you girls! Jenny and i are both teaching at Art Opera in April. Check out the classes if you have a second to see what we will be up to!

in the bottom picture, i took a picture of myself to show where i put a fun streak of blue in my hair. I'd wanted to do it for awhile and bought a bottle of the color at Hot Topic a few months ago, but promptly misplaced it. i found it last night in with my glues! (well, it looks like a glue bottle....) again jenny, again, sorry for the name lapse; typical kecia move!

any chance you watch Dexter? the season finale was on tonight and i have to say that i am in SHOCK over the ending.

I will be doing a soldering demo as i am taking orders for soldered anagram pendants this Saturday at Squan Dry Goods, in Manasquan. she is an upscale consignment shoppe for women and teens. the shoppe is fantastic and 2 floors of very reasonable, gently used clothing and accessories. her new venue is the jewelry room, which is where i will be at. stop by if you can and say hi!

there are 2 spots left in my holiday ornament class on learning how to solder. here is an ornament that i made the other day using items from my Christmas stash. the class ornament will be a little different (no bow tie and a 2x3 square), but we will have fun using vintage fabrics, old Holiday greeting cards, learning how to attach bulbs to the bottom, etc. email me for details if you are interested at keeshagirl4@aol.com. class is sunday dec. 13th from 1:00-4:30/5:00. you need to put down a deposit to reserve your seat.

soldering class

so yesterday i held another soldering class. it went from 3 students to 7 in a matter of a day, so i did some reconfiguring and got it all arranged. need to get some extra power surgers and longer cords as we ran into a couple of glitches using an extension cord (not enough power). as i say after every class, i learned a few things as well as teaching what i know. it was a great class, fun and lively. i seemed to innocently say things that as soon as they come out of my month, sound rather crass! so we all had some good laughs at me! it is humbling to be told that i've inspired someone, so as a teaher, my goal has been achieved. you can check out jill's blog post here from my class.
