Beautiful Rhode Island

Zipped over to Rhode Island to visit my friend, Linda, for a week. She told me her husband was going out of town and did I want to come? Yeah, duh! We had a lot of fun together. We decided first off that we wanted to create Garden angels, which somehow we started calling our Garden Druids. Pretty much we worked on them almost the whole week (a little bit on them every day and then running out to shop, eat, beach it, etc. ) So it was a nice combo of doing a variety of things. We used a lot of organic items on them found at the beach or things we'd been saving "for just the right project".

Here's mine at home in her new spot on the back porch:

We hit the beach a few times looking for treasures, driftwood and taking pictures of the wildlife, rock stacking :

Watched an Osprey momma feeding her crew

We also made our own upcycled dream catchers:

and did some dyeing:

and lastly, you know i like my critters. they were to be seen everywhere!

we made the most of our time while enjoying art, friendship, cocktails, beautiful weather, nature and wildlife. couldn't have asked for a nicer more spontaneous vacation!

through the garden gate

Early this morning i was out in the garden watering and decided to bring my camera. it's been awhile since i took photos of my garden. the butterflies were quite active this morning; fluttering around the butterfly bush to drink their fill before moving on.

it's this butterfly just beautiful? when i was photographing this butterfly, a hummingbird swooped in and scared him off (and startled me too!) i think he was very curious about me as he just hovered in front of me for a few seconds staring at me. i tried to get my camera out of my left hand to get his pic, but then off he went! we don't see too many hummers here - so that was a real treat for today.

a window's view into my world

gigantic perennial hibiscus - such delicate beauty.
--------------------------------------------------------------

my bird bath waiting for that little black bird to come and take his daily bath.

---------------------------------------------------------------

a worn and weathered angel - i say she's done a good job watching over my gardens

-----------------------------------------------------------

broken beauty with new life and love

-----------------------------------------------------------

these icky webs are all over the yard. i prefer the intricate spun ones

----------------------------------------------------

brand new blooms on my hydrangea. Did you know the Victorian meaning behind the hydrangea was perseverance?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

tiny, sweet little blue eyed susan

---------------------------------------------------

found this little visitor behind one of my chair cushions on the back deck. i often find them here because it is cool and moist. i like to gently spray water back there for them to drink and stay cool.

just a reminder:

tomorrow is flea market friday again!
feel free to show off our cool vintage finds from the flea market, garage sale, thrift or antique store.

the rules of participation:

1) you don't have to have gone to a flea market on friday - you can show off any wonderful treasures that you have found any time while at the flea market, junking antiquing or thrift store.
2) please mention Lemoncholy's Flight of Fancy's Flea Market Friday in your blog post and link back to this post.
3) this is a blog hop to meet other bloggers, so please no links if you are just trying to advertise your site. if you'd like to talk to me about sponsoring your flea market website, feel free to email me.

*see you tomorrow!

porch party

this is the metal homemade bookcase/cabinet that i picked up yesterday. it looks like its always been here. i thought i'd take some other pictures of my back porch for you to enjoy. there is a hook over the cabinet, so i'll pick up a hanging basket of flowers, which i think will look really nice.

this is a pair of shutters i picked up yesterday for $20.
-----------------------------------------------

and here is the potting bench i also got yesterday. the guy who makes them is retiring. he said this is the last one. he and his wife are really cool. they live down south in a town called, "Tuckerton". he is selling off his wood pieces, so me and jeff (jane wants to go too!) are going to go see what he has.
------------------------------------------------

close up on potting bench. i put some of my precious sea balls in the enamel bowl on top there. (it's sunk in). because we get so much rain, we are going to try and find something to cover it with during rain and winter.

the dress form i got yesterday

a paper mache bust also found yesterday. i have some vintage metal flower curtain tie back pin that i will poke into the bust and then hang my necklaces from there.
* a couple of you wanted to know how i got all these items back home: we live quite close to this flea market, so jeff and dillon drove over and picked up one load. then jeff came back later and picked us girls up. then jane and i returned with the truck to get the tin shed. it was light weight and easily slid into the back of jeff's truck.
i just got invited to participate in a porch party. stop by Rose Colored Glasses to see all the participants.

slide show!
