more Art in the rough, 2010

What can I say about Art-in-the-rough? it was magical. it was like being back at girl scout camp, only funner because i got to enjoy it with my son. We were fed well - every meal was well planned and delicious. there was a campfire every morning and every evening. we had hot showers and plenty of room to do our art and in our tents. there was a delicious lobster bake one evening where they cooked the lobster in a traditional Maine way in which they also cook still in its stalk, corn on the cob. yummy! there were snacks in between and desserts at every turn. i taught a jewelry class one day and then took a banner class with taryn the next. we finished off the evening with silly photographs (quite fun to see know!) and then dinner and a movie in the barn (Alice in Wonderland). the planning, details and menu. everyone walked away with a door prize, even dillon. i give an A+. this group worked hard to show us a good time in beautiful Maine and it was perfect.

A Wonderland Journal with Pamela Huntington

Did you ever wonder what Alice’s Journal of her
Wonderland Journey might have looked like? In this class we
will create a magical, whimsy filled fabric journal of her( or
your) adventures. “What is the use of a book, thought Alice,
without pictures or conversations”. We will create a book
filled with pictures and visual conversations. Stuffed with
adventure and lace. All sorts of ideas for creating a rich
layered page will be explored. Including stamping on velvet
and gel transfers onto different surfaces and using organza to
make an ethereal looking fabric collage on a page. To
embellish the cover we will create a resin filled bezel
containing a tiny collage and, or charm. This will be a day of
fun creating and adventure. And if the Alice theme is not your
pleasure, bring your own ideas and pictures for your journal.
The journal is approximately 5 x 7 and as stuffed with
fun as we can possibly make it!

a little more on Pam:

Pamela Huntington
Left New York City many years ago and landed
like Alice in a sort of strange wonderland deep in the
woods of Connecticut. Immediately, she began to
look for haunting flights of fancy, curious old recipes, vintage oddities and ephemeral pages stashed in old
cupboards. And that is where the folly began…mixed media, collage, handmade books, tiny theaters began to
fill the house in the woods… objects of everyday tucked
into shadowboxes taking on the patina of age, tiny
beeswax creations adorning the library of imagination and so on…to be continued.. In the meantime finished works available in various galleries and published in
Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studio:

Alice in Wonderland @ Art-is-You

i'm leaving on Tuesday for Portland to teach at Artnsoul, but i am also trying to get much done for the art retreat, Art-is-You, which is where i will be teaching next week. Their theme this year, is Alice in Wonderland, so i painted a little watercolor using a Suzi Blu type of girl (taught at her San Diego workshop). I also used page from a vintage book for the scene. i added the little birdie on my own, just because! i am making little ornaments and a few collages on little frames and i also made myself a little t-shirt to wear at "Alice's coronation".

Taking tea with Alice

We were given a kewpie doll to alter for "Taking tea with Alice" (in Wonderland) for the "Art is You" art retreat that will take place in a few weeks in Connecticut. so this is what i came up with. I still want to do something around the base under her skirt (i see a poofy ribbon). I am teaching 4 classes there (snippets, soldering, a jewelry class and a collage class). I am really looking forward to it.

In the meantime, i have finally taken booth photos and shots of most of my jewerly and mixed media pieces - so i'll probably post those tomorrow. tonight i begin pricing everything. (yuck, i hate this part).
