I admit it

Yesterday I got into a verbal spat with some woman on fb. The whole thing is silly, but I had posted something about how I was annoyed that a retail store insisted that "store policy" required that my purchase be placed into one of THEIR bags. I had said, "no bag please" as I always do since I find plastic bags WASTEFUL, especially since I have a big purse and a tote with me (hey, look at that, both are BAGS!) (and yes I will be calling the store and writing a letter about the ridiculous store policy and telling them that unless they can't be environmentally friendly, then I'll just shop elsewhere; maybe one of their competitors)

ok, so i posted on fb and then the flood came in. LOTS  of suggestions on what I should have done. (my personal fav, "you should bring your own bags". Really, have never thought of that before!) So I'm gonna admit right here and now that I CANNOT STAND UNSOLICITED ADVICE. it just irritates the heck out of me. I feel like shouting to these "helpey helpertons" as I like to call them, "hello I am 50 years old, I know what I should be doing in life"! I get it, I get it, they are just trying to be helpful.  I'm not trying to sound mean or ungrateful But times that by more than a few  people and then times that by how often it happens and then times that by all the helpey helpertons in the world and OMG = exhausting! I just wanted to express my frustration .

so back to the fb post. I then posted an add-on, saying, Add on: "ok peeps, I carry a big purse and a foldable tote. A receipt should suffice if I were to be accused of shoplifting. I was told a new policy was in place and I had To use their plastic bag. And I'm saying that's wasteful. Don't need any other suggestions! thanks!"

I tried to make it sound as pleasant as possible while all the while saying, "butt out", lol. But I'm afraid that one woman (the one who was concerned that I might be accused of shoplifting") took it very personal. She said, "how dare you treat your followers like that" and "i was just doing something out of the goodness of my heart" and  "don't post on fb if you don't want advice"  and "she didn't want to be a part of my anger". SILLY. then she unfriended me. Good, I say!

So what's my point? My point is, is I have a personal policy to not offer unsolicited advice. No one wants it, unless they ask for it. I don't go on fb walls offering advice, because I assume they are grown up enough to know what the hell they are doing without any input from me. It's in my humble opinion that people just want to be HEARD and not FIXED.

  2. LOL, this is why I don't do FB. Too many strange people out there. I went on 60 Minutes TV show FB page a few weeks ago as I was interested in a story they had and what people thought, then I was sorry I looked. Wow, people are weird and really horrible. I liked it better before that I didn't know that! Venting doesn't need solutions, it's just venting.

  3. You should move to the Bay Area - TRY getting a plastic bag at a store here. HA! : )

  4. You have the right to post whatever you like. People sometimes act so stupid that I want to punch them in the face. I agree with you totally. Be yourself!
