30 days of thanks continues.....

Today i am thankful..... Well, i don't know if i'm comfortable with the word, thankful for this post, so i think i will change it to - today i appreciate :

ME!
the reason i wanted to post this, is because i've noticed lately that many women are so hard on themselves! and i'm not singleing anyone out by any means - because so many women do this. They don't like how they look, think they've gained too much weight, hate this, hate that. My day in NY alone in class i had 3 different women say something about their looks. One woman in this class felt so bad about herself that she didn't want any pictures taken and definitely didn't want them on my blog. i told her that i felt sad that she was so down on herself. but if you look at her, she is beautiful. she has a great smile, a lovely face, etc. i don't see the things that she is so critical of. I guess i just wish for all women that we could accept ourselves for who we are at the moment. we will never be who we looked like in high school - that time is gone. we are now - love yourself. the harshest critic is ourselves! So you might be heavy right now, so what? eventually when you are ready, you will lose the pounds. you aren't going to enjoy life because you are 15 pounds overweight?
So back to appreciating myself..... long ago, i put those self insecurities aside. one day i just realized that people will see what you want them to see. Do i want to appear confident, smart, creative, what? Eventually i found that by putting my fears aside and projecting myself, i believed it. does that make sense? i'm a hard worker, a nice, kind person, confident and thoughtful. there are some things that i wish were more about myself, but you know what? that's not me, that is someone else that i am comparing myself to and thinking "shouldn't i be more like that?" NO! once i stopped comparing myself and accepted myself for who i am, then i came to appreciate myself so much more.
So, ladies, friends, girls, etc. - try to be thankful for you and who you are right now, because that's the person i love!
my best always,
kecia

30 days of thanks continues - today i am thankful for.......

our sweet golden retriever, Kirby! we got kirby in 1996, so she is 11 years old. Kirby was named by Dillon after a character in his then favorite movie, "The brave little toaster". We like to call Kirby the ambassador of our neighborhood. she feels it is her duty to greet and be petted by anyone who happens to be walking by, riding their bikes, dropping of the mail, etc. (she's charmed the UPS lady who brings her treats!)
Kirby is sweet, loyal and patient. She is the matriarch of our dogs and they just love her. what am i saying, "everyone loves kirby".

Nov. 2 - 30 days of thanks

today i am thankful for my husband. we've been married 17 years. We've had to deal with more than your average couple with our situation with Tucker (i like to refer to it as a "life-altering' experience). so there has been many ups and downs. He is my biggest supporter of my art work and is always encouraging me to take classes, go to these retreats, do shows, try new things, etc. he's very confident for me! and even if i am not the best at showing it, i appreciate it immensely.
this is a picture of Jeff when we held a surprise 40th birthday party for him. as a joke, his friend rented a baby llama and told jeff it was his present. (we've always joked about wanting to own a llama).

thirty days of Thanks!

Today is Nov. 1st, so that means we begin the 30days of thanks! this was something i discussed a few weeks ago about posting for 30 days about things you are thankful for. i'd love for you to join me either by commenting on my blog or doing it on your own blog! it doesn't have to be anything long or lengthy, just a little blurb like, "today i am thankful for xxxxx". feel free to discuss why you are thankful or just leave it at that! simple rules!
So, today, my first day of thanks, i am thankful for my son Dillon. Dillon is my second child (tucker will get his own post later on a special day). Dillon is 14 years old and in 9th grade. I think Dillon is such a unique person and i am so glad he is my son. he is very smart, not only with school, but common sense. he has an amazing sense of humor (like riding his bike home from his friends house wearing a superman cape! i wish i could have seen that!) and constantly makes me laugh. he is a joy to be around. i love when we get to travel together to. he is such a good companion. he is nice, polite and as you can see very handsome. he is thoughtful and sweet and i don't believe he has a mean bone in him. i've rarely seen him angry - his deposition is amazing. i am so lucky that my second child is so kind. i believe someone took pity on us after what happened to Tucker and said "send them the best baby you've got"!
